dTomorrow is Mother’s Day.  A very different Mother’s Day for many of us will not see our own mothers or celebrate it going out to eat, shopping, etc.

To me this is a day, I get to do whatever I want. Right? Well, that is what I tell myself.

It is a day to treat myself, reward myself for my hard work as a mother! Ha ha.

Sometimes, that is hard to even imagine. A day to reward myself. YES.

Why not!

But we don’t need only Mother’s Day to do this. We should have more days than just this one day.

Treating or rewarding ourselves for our hard work from time to time is not necessarily a bad thing…

However, HOW we do it is often counterproductive to our goals. So don’t let Mother’s Day be one of those that will take us off our goal of holiness in wellness.

We “treat” ourselves by indulging in the exact activity or behavior that we are working to limit or change.

Didn’t spend any extra income on non-essentials this month?

Treat yourself to a whole new expensive outfit or a shopping trip to HomeGoods. (We all know how dangerous HomeGoods can be!) — But who is going shopping these days. Not, me.

Stuck to your diet all week?

Treat yourself to a pizza and an ice cream sundae. Maybe even an extra snack before bed, you earned it!

Good habits are hard to form and very easy to break.

So what we sometimes view as one “cheat day” or “treat day” , “Mother’s Day”, can actually work against us when we try to get back into our healthy routine the next day.

WAIT! Don’t Go. Read how you can actually have a Mother’s Day of indulging without get off our holiness in wellness journey!

Now that is not to say don’t treat yourself!  The challenge is to treat yourself without indulging or defeating yourself.

In order to do this – you have to have a plan.

If you are sticking to a healthy diet all week and want one day to add a treat, plan ahead what that treat will be.

If your treat will be an indulgent meal, plan to stick to your diet for the other two meals of the day and determine ahead of time what portion you will consume of your “treat meal.”

If you want to reward yourself with dessert – choose the healthiest version of that dessert that you can find and also determine your portion size prior to indulging. Or choose a fruit dessert for natural sweetness!

I love _______ (ex: ice cream).

So, when I “treat” myself, I want to do so without feeling guilty. By planning ahead when I will treat myself and how much I will consume, I avoid overindulging and impulsive decision making.

We deserve this Mother’s Day. It has been long weeks and seem longer weeks to come!

This Mother’s Day, you deserve to treat yourself. Every Sunday, or Monday, everyday.

You deserve to treat yourself! And you deserve to do it in a way that will not defeat yourself.

And there are also so many ways to treat yourself without consuming or spending it!

Treat yourself to a bubble bath with a good book.

Treat yourself to a hot cup of tea, a soft blanket, comfy clothes, and your favorite movie without feeling lazy.

Treat yourself to a healthy meal out as a reward for preparing healthy food all week. The possibilities are endless!

Yet, remember that a treat day isn’t self-care. No.  Self-care is what I call, seeking holiness in wellness! I can take about this subject all day but I wouldn’t today — (See my talk at the Ladies Love Life Conference on this, Yes to You is Yes to God about this subject)

But what I do want to share is that we are getting ready to start our Immaculate Heart of Mary Challenge on May 18 which registration closes on May 13 (if you want to get your materials in time. )

I promise you that you will find God’s mercy in your self-care throughout this challenge. I finally was able to do a recording of what is inside the Immaculate Heart of Mary Challenge so that you can see more and hopefully feel the call to join us!

So, take a few minutes to watch and see with your own eyes, what is inside the Immaculate
