St. Ignatius of Loyola is a well-known saint, who founded the Jesuit Order.
Yet for this solider who was resting as a result of a battle injury needed a spiritual awakening.
It took words to bring about this spiritual awakening of a Spanish theologian, one of the most influential figures in the Counter- Reformation in the 16th that still has a spiritual affect to this day.
It was reading the life of Christ and a book of the lives of the saints awaken this giant:
The version of the lives of the saints he was reading contained prologues to the various lives by a Cistercian monk who conceived the service of God as holy chivalry.
This view of life profoundly moved and attracted Ignatius. After much reflection, he resolved to imitate the holy austerities of the saints in order to do penance for his sins. – Encyclopedia Britannica
